What is Ignite?
Ignite, established at CASPSLaP 2014 and continued at subsequent CASPSLaP conferences (2016, 2018, and 2020) is an interactive pedagogy-focused session that seeks to highlight best practices in classroom pronunciation instruction, and features brief micro-teaching lessons in a rotating “speed-dating” format (variably known as “speed geeking”, “lightning talks”, or PechaKucha). The lessons are designed to showcase specific pedagogical techniques or activities to teach a particular Spanish or Portuguese sound or process, or to help learners of these languages overcome a particular problem. These lessons are aimed at students enrolled in courses specifically treating pronunciation/phonetics or for learners in more general language courses.
